Case Study: Toys Translation

Read the case study below to understand how we helped Cozy Hedgehog with the translation and localisation of their Baby Milestone Cards.

Intro:

Cozy Hedgehog sell products for babies and have a distinctive brand identity in the UK. In order to expand their market to Spain they needed their Baby Milestone Cards translated into Spanish, and so sought the services of Trust Your Brand.

Business objective:

The Spanish copy and pictures needed to stay on brand, while also fitting into their existing layout. The text contained creative copy on the cards, as well as terminology with strong cultural references, both on the cards and in the product description.

What we did:

We familiarised ourselves with the style of the brand, so we could begin to plan for the correct language choices in Spanish.

We made sure the translations were relevant and effective despite the short sentences and lack of context in many instances. We were also able to point out when the physical layout would change due to the difference in the length of words and phrases in each language.

Toys & Games Translation

We identified several instances where references wouldn’t have the same impact on the Spanish market.

For example, these baby cards are the perfect gift for a baby shower, but Spaniards do not celebrate anything like a baby shower, or at least they do not refer to it by any particular name. We produced an alternative that resonates in Spanish and is also SEO friendly, which is paramount for this e-commerce retailer.

Finally, we had to pay close attention to gender issues since the cards are unisex. Spanish is a gendered language, so we made sure that all expressions address both male and female babies.

Results:

The client is now ready to sell the Baby Cards for the Spanish market and is planning to offer new products in 2020.
